Conquérir et conserver. Gênes et Turin dans la politique de la France au XVIIe siècle

Cet article étudie la stratégie politico-militaire de la France en Italie au XVIIe siècle. Il le fait du point de vue du gouvernement à travers la triple dimension d’une théorie élaborée pendant la guerre de Trente ans, des traités juridiques revendiquant les territoires italiens et des liens établis avec la Savoie et surtout Gênes. Celle-ci occupe une place centrale dans la politique de la monarchie qui chercha à la plier à ses intérêts. La stratégie de la France s’affirma comme une constante, qui va inspirer les interventions de Louis XIV dans la Péninsule.

Conquer and maintain. Genoa and Turin during the French Policy in the 17th Century

The essay studies the political and military strategy regarding Italy by the French government in the 17th century. The following issues will be treated: the theory developed – 531 – during the Thirty Years War, the legal treaties claiming the Italian territories and the links established particularly with Genoa and the Savoy. The monarchy’s policy holds Genoa in a central position, where they try to break Genoa for their own interests. These actions and strategies will be conducted by Louis XIV.
